The organic way to ward off cancer
 |
According to the US National Cancer Institute (NCI), roughly one-third of all cancer deaths could be just diet-related. This is because foods high in antioxidants can easily suppress free radical activity, which is known to cause cellular damage that leads to cancer.
The NCI also states, "With respect to dietary factors that may protect against cancer, the greatest consistency was seen for fruits and non-starchy vegetables." One reason for this is because fruits and vegetables have a high content of phytonutrients, a strong class of antioxidants.
Despite this beckoning promise of good health, many of us do not take the recommended servings of fruits and vegetables daily. In addition, most farm produce is tainted with chemicals, pesticides, additives and growth hormones. These are linked to a host of diseases due to their toxicity and diminishing concentration of nutrients and antioxidants.
An alternative is organic produce. According to a recent study by the Newcastle University of UK, organic produce contains up to 40% more antioxidants than non-organic foods. One antioxidant, selenium, was found to be about 390% higher in organic foods.
With organic fruits and vegetables, not only are you helping yourself to plenty of phytonutrients, Mother Nature's 'fighters', to protect your cells, you can also rest assured that you are not adding to the cocktail of chemicals within your body. Now, isn't that the best way to good health?
